The WorldTeach program in the Federated States of Micronesia began on the island state of Pohnpei in 2006, and will expand to the island state of Kosrae in 2008.
The program departs in July. Volunteers receive 3-4 weeks of orientation, including training in local languages, cultural adaptation, and teaching methodology. Volunteers then complete a ten-month teaching contract with the Ministry of Education.
Volunteers must be native speakers of English with a bachelor’s degree in any subject, although experience teaching math and science is a plus. Depending on site placements, volunteers may teach English, math or science and should be flexible, mature, culturally sensitive and open to learning about Micronesian culture and life-style.

Pohnpei has proven itself to be even more beautiful and welcoming than I ever would have imagined. I was very nervous coming here, but this incredible island has become my home. The people here are as generous and kind as you could hope to meet anywhere in the world."
