Welcome to Ecuador!

The Ecuador Summer Program affords volunteers a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth, while also allowing an up-close look at development work. Ecuador summer volunteers teach English in a wide variety of settings including community centers, schools, and institutions that have invited WorldTeach volunteers.  Summer volunteers in Ecuador are primarily placed in communities that would not otherwise be able to have a native speaker to teach English.  This means that some volunteers are placed in rural areas but placements in larger, more urban communities are also available.  In some cases, a summer program volunteer may pioneer a new site that may eventually host a year-long volunteer.  Students range in age from elementary to high school to adults.  Summer program sites are usually available in all three of Ecuador’s geographical areas: mountains, coast and jungle.

Summer program volunteers contribute to Ecuador by teaching English, getting involved in other community projects, acting as cultural ambassadors of the US and by furthering their own knowledge of foreign lands for future endeavors abroad.  The program emphasizes experiential-learning and is an ideal first step to those interested in international development work and/or education.

The summer program runs from early June to mid-August.

English language fluency is required. Volunteers must be between the ages of 18 and 74 by the departure date. Prior teaching experience is helpful but not required.  Successful volunteers will be flexible, mature, resourceful, and have a genuine interest in teaching in Ecuador. The summer program is open to undergraduates
