WorldTeach volunteers in Costa Rica teach English at public primary schools (first through sixth grades) under the auspices of the Ministry of Education. Most teaching placements are in small towns in rural areas throughout the country.
Volunteers depart in January, receive a month of orientation training, and teach through mid-December; a 12 month commitment required. The school year in Costa Rica begins in February and ends in the middle of December.
The year long program requires volunteers to be between the ages of 18 and 74 by the departure date. Volunteer must also have a Bachelor's degree (in any subject) and demonstrate a desire to teach young children. You need not be a US citizen, but must be a native English speaker.
