Welcome to Colombia!

In January 2009 WorldTeach launched a unique pilot program in Isla Baru, Colombia. Institucion Educativa Barbacoas, a charter school for children from low income families, and I.E Santa Ana, a public school, were the first participating schools.

Today, WorldTeach has expanded to include Fundacion Pies Descalzos, the school and community center in Barranquilla founded by performing artist Shakira, Universidad Tecnologica de Bolivar in Cartagena, and several public schools in the beautiful coffee growing region. The program will likely expand for the 2011 year.

The duration of the program is 11 months, including an intensive in-country orientation. Volunteers provide English-language instruction to students at grade school and higher levels.

Volunteers must be native English speakers with at least a Bachelor's degree. They must demonstrate flexibility and an openness toward teaching various ages and types of students. Volunteers must also be between the ages of 18 and 74 by the departure date.
