Latin America Program Summaries

Chile
Chile - Ministry of Education
Teach English to students in rural primary schools or high schools for the Ministry of Education.  Note: Basic Spanish proficiency highly encouraged, developing country experience preferred. Ministry provides all in-country training and placement and host family support. WorldTeach provides pre-departure and supplemental in-country training and support. Departures in mid March and mid July.
Volunteer Commitment: US$3,990 for semester-long program or US$4,590 for year-long program (partially funded by Ministry of Education in Chile).
 
Teach English to students ranging from kindergarten to 10th grade, in addition to adults, in Chile's Los Lagos (X) and Aisèn (XI) regions.  The program runs from the end of February til mid December.  Volunteer Commitment: fully funded but US$1,500 deposit required, which will be refunded after successful completion of the program.  Please note that there is a Spanish proficiency required.
 
Colombia
Teach English to elementary school or high school students on a rural peninsula near Cartagena. Live in teacher housing. Departure in early January.
Volunteer Commitment: US$1500 plus US$500 deposit to be returned upon completion of service (partially-funded by Colombian Ministry of Education and Colombian NGOs).
 
Teach English in public elementary schools in rural communities. Live with a host family. Departure in early January. Volunteer Commitment: US$4,990.
 
Teach English primarily in universities and adult education centers. Most placements are in urban areas; a few are rural. Live with a host family. Departures in early February and mid August. Volunteer Commitment: $4,990.
 
Guyana
Teach math and science at public high schools throughout Guyana. Site placements range from deep riverrain hinterlands to savannahs to urban areas. Volunteers live in teacher housing near their schools. Departure in early August. Volunteer Commitment: US$2,000.
