Teacher Fellowships for Ecuador Year, Costa Rica Year,
Namibia Year Programs
Thanks to the generosity of a former WorldTeach volunteer, WorldTeach announces the WorldTeach Teacher Fellowships, which began in the fall of 2005. The WorldTeach Teacher Fellowship is for trained and experienced teachers (3+ years of classroom experience) who plan to continue teaching upon return from their WorldTeach program. The Fellowship recognizes the financial loss suffered by teachers who forfeit a year's salary in addition to paying the participation fee, even as they are contributing their expertise to the program.
Thus the Fellowship will cover the volunteer participation fee of $4,990 for each of two Fellows on the Ecuador Year program, $4,990 for each of two Fellows on the Costa Rica Year program, and $5,990 for each of two Fellows on the Namibia Year program. Teacher Fellows will be required to deposit $1,000 to participate in the WorldTeach program, which will be returned to the volunteer fellow upon completion of service.
Two Fellowships will be awarded for each departure group.
If you are interested in applying to the Teacher Fellowship, please refer to our complete instructions and requirements.
Teacher Fellowships for China Year Program
Several of the current WorldTeach China volunteers ran the Beijing marathon in May 2006 to raise money for two WorldTeach Teacher Fellowships for China. The WorldTeach Teacher Fellowship is for trained and experienced teachers who are willing to assist with the teacher training during Orientation and volunteer teacher support during the school year. Their fundraising letter is available for you to read here.
The fellowship will cover the volunteer costs to participate in the China year program which is $500.
Two Fellowships will be awarded for each departure group.
If you are interested in applying to the Teacher Fellowship, please refer to our complete instructions and requirements.
Grants for In-Country Volunteers
WorldTeach volunteers currently teaching in Namibia, the Marshall Islands, or Costa Rica may apply for mini-grants of about $250 each from the Kristin Linnea Skvarla Foundation. Four to eight of these mini-grants will be awarded by the Foundation each year to support your projects either in your school or your community. Applications may be made directly to the Foundation. Please notify the WorldTeach Cambridge office when you apply.
Please read more about this opportunity for more details on how to apply.
Matching Grants for Namibia Year Program
An anonymous donor has generously offered to match up to $1,000 for up to 15 different Namibia Year volunteers who are actively fundraising to meet the cost of the program departing in December. In the first year of the grant, 14 volunteers qualified for the matching grant, 3 of whom actually fundraised so much on their own that they didn't end up needing the grant!
Volunteers who have been accepted to the Namibia Year program are eligible for these matching grants when they demonstrate to WorldTeach that they have begun to raise money towards their program fee. Please contact finance@worldteach.org if you have any questions.
Scholarships for Extending WorldTeach Volunteers
WorldTeach has a limited number of named scholarships established through the generosity of former volunteers and their families and friends. These limited scholarship funds are available to assist current volunteers who are extending their WorldTeach service commitment for an additional year.
The scholarship awards are usually in the range of $100-$600 (depending on the amount in the appropriate named fund) and are ordinarily granted to help toward health insurance costs for a second year abroad. Volunteers who wish to extend their service should email the Program Manager to request information regarding financial assistance toward the costs of their second year.
