Steps to Becoming a WorldTeach Volunteer
 


 

 

Application Process

Select a program by reading materials online, calling the WorldTeach office, or speaking with a returned volunteer.  Our admissions are rolling, and thus preference is given to those who apply before the deadline.  Applicants for partially- and fully-funded programs are encouraged to apply as early as possible, as these programs fill more quickly.

To apply, please submit the two-part WorldTeach Volunteer Teacher Application. Your application is not complete until we receive both Part I and Part II.  There is no application fee.

            Part II includes comprehensive instructions on the following materials:

    • three essays
    • resume in WorldTeach format
    • college/university transcript and diploma (year-long programs only)
    • two references, either professional or academic
    • interview with returned volunteer (year-long programs only)
  • Please submit your essays and resume by email if possible; for Chile Ministry applicants, electronic submission is required
  • If you have any questions, please write to admissions@worldteach.org for an immediate response

 

Application Decision

Upon completion of your application, the Admissions Committee will begin a comprehensive review, and within two weeks you will hear from us as to a decision.  Those who complete their application for a particular program more than eight months before its date of departure will not be given a decision until within those eight months.  Dependent on the program, there may be other exceptions in regards to the length of time before a decision is given.

If you are accepted, we will immediately send you an Acceptance Packet with the necessary materials and directions to officially confirm your place on the WorldTeach program to which you have been accepted.

 

Confirmation & Pre-Departure Process

To confirm, we must receive from you the following items:

  • A deposit of US$450 securing your place on the program and the group flight
  • Two signed copies of the Conditions of Participation (COP) form, found in your Acceptance Packet
  • Two signed copies of the Volunteer Medical History (VMH) form, found in your Acceptance Packet

At this point we will begin to send your pre-departure materials in the mail.  You will need to follow the pre-departure checklist for TESOL requirements, fee schedules, immunizations, visa applications and travel arrangements.

Once we receive confirmation materials from you, our field staff can begin matching volunteers with host schools, as well as with host families or private teacher housing.  Our field directors work hard to meet your needs and those of the other volunteers in your group alongside those of the schools and other in-country partners.  Our field staff will try to give you notice of your placement about two to four weeks before your departure, but it could be closer to the time of departure.

As this is one of the most important components of the pre-departure process and your eventual in-country experience, your full participation and due patience will be much appreciated while you ready yourself for a remarkable journey!
