Action Without Borders connects people, organizations and resources to help build a world where all people can live free and dignified lives. Action Without Borders is independent of any government, political ideology or religious creed. Its work is guided by the common desire of our members and supporters to find practical solutions to social and environmental problems, in a spirit of generosity and mutual respect. Over 47,000 nonprofit and community organizations in 165 countries, which you can search by name, location or mission. You can define what information you'd like to receive by email from among the job openings, volunteer opportunities, internships, events, and resources posted here by organizations all over the world.
AFS is an international, voluntary, non-governmental, non-profit organization that provides intercultural learning opportunities to help people develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to create a more just and peaceful world. AFS enables people to act as responsible global citizens working for peace and understanding in a diverse world. It acknowledges that peace is a dynamic concept threatened by injustice, inequity and intolerance. AFS is one of the world's largest not-for-profit volunteer based organizations. It offers international exchange programs in over 50 countries.
The
Alliance for Conflict Transformation is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to expanding the knowledge and practice of conflict transformation within the U.S. and international communities through innovative research and practice. ACT conducts research, evaluation, education, and training programs worldwide and also maintains the ACT Forums, one of the premier sites for receiving/posting information on career and educational opportunities in the fields of conflict transformation, peacebuilding, development and civil society worldwide.

Amigos de las Américas is an international, volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization that builds partnerships to empower young leader, advance community development, and strengthen multi-cultural understanding in the Americas. During the 2001 summer, more than 500 high school and college students volunteered in 8 Latin American countries. Projects included community sanitation and development, health education and home improvement.
Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. AI's vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards. In pursuit of this vision, AI's mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights.
CCS is a leading fund-raising consulting and management firm established in 1947 which works with major nonprofit organizations in designing and implementing significant fundraising campaigns and programs. The firm serves more than 300 organizations per year that represent the recognized nonprofit sectors.
The Council on International Educational Exchange is dedicated to helping people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. Founded in 1947, Council has developed a wide variety of programs and services primarily for students and teachers at secondary through university levels. Today, with 300 professionals working in 30 countries, Council has become one of the world's leading operators of international exchange programs and related services.
Creative Connections is an educational service which provides Arts in Education enrichment programs for grades K-12. Its founder, Paul Hurteau, was a WorldTeach volunteer in Kenya as well as in Ecuador.
Cross-Cultural Solutions operates in 10 countries with more than 250 staff members worldwide. Their mission is to operate volunteer programs around the world in partnership with sustainable community initiatives, bringing people together to work side-by-side while sharing perspectives and fostering cultural understanding.
Earthwatch Institute engages people worldwide in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment.
The mission of Echoing Green is to spark social change by identifying, investing, and supporting the world's most exceptional emerging leaders and the organizations they launch. Through a two-year fellowship program, Echoing Greens helps its network of visionaries develop new solutions to society’s most difficult problems. These social entrepreneurs and their organizations work to close deeply-rooted social, economic, and political inequities, ensure equal access, and help all individuals reach their potential. To date, Echoing Green has invested $25 million in seed and start up grants to nearly 450 social entrepreneurs and their innovative organizations.
Since its founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has built and rehabilitated more than 150,000 houses with families in need, becoming a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing. The houses are built with no profit added and no interest charged. Building is financed by a revolving Fund for Humanity.
Indicorps is a non-partisan, non-religious, non-profit organization that encourages Indians around the world to actively participate in India's progress. Indicorps' development-oriented programs provide opportunities for Indians and the Indian diaspora to serve India by applying their skills, time, and resources towards grassroots projects and sustainable strategies for change. The core fellowship program aims to inspire a new generation of global Indian leaders through structured one- and two-year grassroots public service opportunities in India.
Offered in 14 countries, the International Partnership for Service Learning programs unite academic study and volunteer service, giving students a fully integrated study abroad experience. The service enlivens the formal learning, and the learning informs the service. Both students and the host communities benefit from the substantial service each student gives. By studying at a local university and serving 15-20 hours per week in a school, orphanage, health clinic or other agency addressing human needs, students find their knowledge of the host culture - and of themselves - take on greater depth and meaning.
Language, ETC is a non-profit organization which provides English classes to adult immigrants in the Washington, D.C. area. Founded in 1993, the program’s mission is to improve the lives of immigrants through education, regardless of their ability to pay. With hundreds of students per term, Language, ETC relies on volunteers to teach evening and weekend classes. Teacher training is provided, and prior teaching experience is not necessary.
The New Teacher Project (TNTP) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the number of outstanding individuals who become public school teachers and to creating environments for all educators that maximize their impact on student achievement. It partners with school districts, state education agencies, colleges and universities, and other educational entities to accomplish these goals. To date, TNTP has recruited, prepared or certified approximately 23,000 high-quality teachers, worked with more than 200 school districts and established more than 40 programs in 23 states.
Oxfam is a development, relief, and campaigning organization that works with others to find lasting solutions to poverty and suffering around the world.
In 1961, President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps to promote world peace and friendship. Three simple goals comprise the Peace Corps' mission: 1. Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their needs for trained men and women; 2. Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served; 3. Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of all Americans.
Rare works to protect our planet's natural heritage, while helping people benefit from conservation. Rare's mission is to protect wildlands of globally significant biodiversity by enabling local people to benefit from their preservation. Rare makes a global impact by supporting hundreds of grassroots conservationists around the world. A returned WorldTeach Costa Rica volunteer and Field Director, Brett Jenks, has served as President and CEO of Rare since 2000.
Save the Children is the leading independent organization creating real and lasting change for children in need in the
United States and around the world. It is a member of the International Save the Children Alliance, comprising 27 national Save the Children organizations working in more than 100 countries to ensure the well-being of children.
Teach for America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools, and become lifelong leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunity. Teach For America seeks leaders of all academic backgrounds and professional ambitions to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools and to become lifelong leaders in the effort to expand opportunity for children. Corps members receive full salaries and benefits, and are eligible to receive transitional grants and loans. Many top graduate schools and employers offer benefits such as two-year deferrals and fellowships. No education courses or experience is required.
VSO is an international development charity that works through volunteers. Its vision is a world without poverty in which people work together to fulfil their potential. It brings people together to share skills, creativity and learning to build a fairer world. Instead of sending food or money, VSO sends women and men from a wide range of professions who want the chance to make a real difference in the fight against poverty. These volunteers work in partnership with colleagues and communities to share skills and learning and achieve positive change together.
